atelier method of photography
Weekly each Wednesday starting at 6:30 PM experience a unique two hour hands on workshop. Long before there there was electric lighting in the artist's atelier (studio), like the one shown below, there was carefully controlled daylight from the Northern sky, often referred to today as Rembrandt Lighting. And long before there were plates with emulsions capable of permanently fixing a projected image, artists were employing a camera, the camera obscura, both on location and in the studio to attain increased realism in drawings and paintings. Our venture into photography practice at the Artists Lofts, Virginia Beach School of The Arts will use the same "Atelier Method" employed in the school's painting classes, a hands-on, learn by doing approach to the medium, and we shall begin with Rembrandt Lighting. Modern electric lighting systems and light modifiers allow us to recreate a wide variety of lighting styles and effects at most any time or location. All this for only $5.00 per person. Please have $5 in exact change or a check for same made out to The Artists Lofts. No charge for models who accompany a workshop participant.
